Three more expedition cruise companies are scheduled to welcome back passengers in November.
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced an extension of the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order (CSO) through January 15, 2022.
After the announcement, the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the global cruise industry’s leading voice, issued a public statement, stating that “the Biden Administration and the CDC recognize the cruise industry’s successful resumption of operations” for its cooperation in handling health and safety protocols.
Without further ado, here are the brands set to restart Antarctic expeditions this month.
Oceanwide Expeditions
After a 20-month break, this Dutch cruise ship operator will restart polar expeditions to Antarctica and the Falkland Islands on Nov. 23.
The Hondius and the Plancius, which are currently cruising south, will be based in Ushuaia, Argentina, for the 2021-2022 season offering expeditions to Antarctic Peninsula, the Falkland Islands, and South Georgia.
“It’s fantastic to be starting again… We’ve upgraded our health protection technology and protocols, and we’re finally getting back to doing what we love to do with the people we love doing it with – our crew, our guides, and most of all, our passengers,” said Oceanwide CEO Michel van Gessel.
Quark Expeditions
On Nov. 25, the Ultramarine, a new purpose-built expedition ship, will begin service in the Antarctic.
The vessel will depart from Ushuaia, Argentina, on a series of Antarctic and South Georgia voyages that will last until March.
To simplify processes for travelers, the company is providing risk-free cancellation and rebooking policies, as well as early-book benefits and reduced deposits.
To protect its clients’ health and well-being during the journey, the company has enhanced health and safety measures in crucial areas.
Albatros Expeditions
The Ocean Victory, the company’s newest ship, will take sail on Nov. 26. Its debut journey is a 14-night Solar Eclipse, South Georgia, and Antarctica cruise.
The company announced the bubble protocol in Ushuaia, Argentina is no longer required, with the exception that all guests must arrive and depart from Ushuaia’s port in one group.
