American Airlines Launch New Direct Flights To 2 Caribbean Hotspots Starting at $191

American Airlines is launching two new direct Caribbean routes from Austin to Mexico and Jamaica with one-way tickets starting at $191. Operations will start on June 11.

The airline will face off against Southwest Airlines, another American low-cost airline that will begin service to the same routes on the same date.

“We’re proud to strengthen our commitment to Austin by providing local customers more options to fly nonstop to popular destinations,” said Brian Znotins, American Airlines Vice President of Network Planning.

“Whether it’s to the beaches of Cozumel and Montego Bay, or the dozens of other destinations we offer from Austin, we look forward to further connecting Central Texans to our global network,” he added.

The weekly flights from Austin-Bergstrom to Cozumel International Airport (CZM) in Mexico and Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, Jamaica have been welcomed by travelers looking to avoid unnecessary hassle after the obvious option, Cancun, became the second busiest airport worldwide.

Flights to both Cozumel and Montenegro Bay will be only available on Saturdays for the time being.

On Saturdays at 9:20 a.m., an outbound flight from Austin will depart for the Mexican island, arriving at 11:50 a.m. The returning flight to Texas will depart Cozumel at 12:30 p.m. and arrive in Austin at 3:20 p.m.

On the same day, an outbound flight to Jamaica will depart Austin at 8:00 am, arriving in Montenegro Bay at 11:50 am. The return flight will depart the Bay at 12:03 pm, landing in Austin at 3:20 pm.

Tickets start at US $191 one way for Cozumel and US $208 on Way for Montenegro Bay and are already available for purchase online.

Those choosing Mexico as their next tropical destination only need to complete a health declaration form and scan the QR code to present it on arrival. No tests or quarantine is needed.

On the other side, unvaccinated travelers to Jamaica are subject to a 14-day quarantine.

Following the World Health Organization guidelines from last week regarding lifting all travel restrictions, Jamaica tourism industry representatives are pushing the government to remove this remaining restriction.
