Aruba Offering Dream Workation Holidays for U.S. Remote Workers

Aruba offering dream workstation holidays for US remote workers

The Caribbean country of Aruba, home to 117,000 in its 75 square miles, is offering dream workation holidays for Americans who can work from anywhere and would like to do so on and near its beaches.

Its One Happy Workation program encourages these individuals to fly from cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Miami, New York and Philadelphia and spend between a week and 90 days in Aruba doing just that.

The One Happy Workation website is offering lists of hotels, hotels with kitchens, villas and condos that have made these special deals available to digital nomads.

One example is Divi Dutch Village Beach Resort, which is providing “elite” Wi-Fi access and “spacious” accommodations. Included are full kitchens so that remote workers staying there do not necessarily need to leave the comfort of their temporary home, which includes a private patio or balcony with a view of the ocean. Access to its fitness centers, spas and pools is included as well.

Another option is offered by Prestige Vacations Aruba. It provides a 40% discount on stays of 30 or more nights in a studio, condo or townhouse.

It also offers fully equipped kitchens and views of white-sand beaches. In addition, cleaning and grocery delivery services are provided free of charge once a week.

The reason why these stays cannot surpass 90 days is because that is the visit limitation that the Aruban government has in place for those with U.S. passports. However, since stays of up to that length are allowed, no governmental approval is necessary for those using One Happy Workation.

It should also be noted that Aruba has strict COVID-19-related requirements that need to be met in order to be allowed into the country and allowed to take advantage of this program.

A PCR test must be taken within 72 hours of departing on the last flight of the journey to Aruba, or visitors may take a test upon arrival and self-isolate until the result arrives, assuming that it is negative. That wait should be no longer than 24 hours.

An online ED card must also be completed.

As for the One Happy Workation program, there is no need to necessarily get any work done while here.

Also, any work that is completed must not be done for an Aruban company. If that is the intent, an appropriate visa or other type of approval will need to be secured prior to doing so.

Upon arrival, remote workers will be expected to follow the COVID-19-related regulations that are in place for everyone in Aruba.

These include wearing a mask in all indoor public spaces and on public transport, social distancing whenever possible and observing any other related regulations that have been or will be implemented, such as curfews.

The name of this program is a nod to Aruba’s nickname of One Happy Island.
