Bali Welcomed 2.1 Million Tourists in 2022, According To Officials

Bali is known as the Island of Gods and attracts international travelers from all over the world to its beauty along with the omnipresence of Balinese Hinduism.

This past year, there has been a huge boom in the tourist industry attracting 2,176,004 foreigners entering Bali. The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office reported this number that over 2.1 million tourists entered via the airport in 2022.

Whilst this is a large number, it isn’t as high as in previous years. The Island is inviting more and more tourists post-pandemic but not at 100% levels.

In 2019, tourist numbers were at a whopping 6,206,884, so the tourist economy still has some ways to go before it gets to pre-pandemic levels.

“The increase in numbers is in line with the immigration policies that were introduced by the government in a bid to recover the nation’s economy by supporting the tourism sector,” said Ngurah Rai Immigration Head, Sugito.

The Immigration Office further detailed the arrivals based on their country of origin and the top five are below.

  1. Australia – 626,783 people
  2. India – 184,702 people
  3. Singapore – 137,470 people
  4. UK – 130,312 people
  5. US – 111,495 arrivals people

Indonesian Minister of Tourism and the Creative Economy, Sandia Salahuddin Uno, spoke on December 29, 2022 sharing new infrastructure projects that will help lure tourists to the island.

Furthermore, he set international tourism targets for 2023 hoping to attract 7.4 million visitors to the country.

Also following the recent uptick of cases in China, as of December 28, 2022, Indonesia has no plans for restrictions on travelers from China. These, like other, international travelers must still show proof of complete vaccination.

Covid-19 Task Force Spokesman Wiku Adisasmito stated that they are continuing to monitor the situation but there are no immediate changes planned at the moment.
