Bali’s Airport Will Not Increase Its Passenger Tax Despite Other Hubs Doing So Nationwide

Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport has announced that it will not increase its airport tax. The announcement comes as 19 Indonesian airports get ready to raise their rates in the coming weeks.

The General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, confirmed that the airport tax will remain the same for both domestic and foreign travelers. He said that the small tax imposed in November 2021 will still be enough to support the continued growth of the airport.

“We are still using the old tariff because the calculation of investment and service costs remains the same. Previously, we had adjusted it in November 2021,” he said.

He also pointed out that the tax for domestic passengers remains IDR 120,000 (USD 8) and the tax for international passengers IDR 240,000. (USD 16). This passenger tax is automatically added by the ticket seller and is included in the price of the ticket.

The amount of investment made at a particular airport determines the amount of the airport tax. An airport tax is added to each commercial airline ticket. This tax is used to finance the modernization of facilities and some operating costs.

19 of Indonesia’s major airports now impose a higher airport tax. The result is a slight increase in ticket costs. Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali is Indonesia’s second busiest airport after Soekarno Hatta International in Jakarta, the country’s capital.

The increased airport fees will be introduced in stages, with the first phase already underway. For Patimura Airport in Ambon and Eltari Airport in Kupang, the fees will be increased starting June 24, 2022.

Adisucipto Airport in Yogyakarta, Lombok International Airport, Juanda Airport in Surabaya and 8 other regional airports across Indonesia will follow on July 16.

The latest round of airport tax increases will take effect on August 1. The new passenger tax rates will take effect at the following airports: Soekarno Hatta Airport in Jakarta, Kualanamu Airport in Medan, Raden Inten Airport II in Lampung, Hassanudin Airport and Fatmawati Airport, both in Tanjung Pandang.
