Budget-Friendly Airline Launches Transatlantic Flights To Europe For As Low As $99

This week, Icelandic airline PLAY launched its first flight from New York’s Stewart International Airport (SWF) to major EU hubs such as Dublin, Berlin, Paris, Copenhagen, and, of course, Reykjavik in Iceland.

It will also be the first time that New York Stewart Airport’s customs expansion will be used.

To celebrate the new route, ticket prices for travel between Aug. 31 and Nov. 16 start at $99 to Iceland and $129 to other European destinations.

It follows the first two routes from PLAY, which launched in April and May, respectively, from Baltimore/Washington D.C. (BWI) and Boston (BOS).

Each of the transatlantic itineraries includes a stopover in Iceland, followed by a shorter hop to mainland Europe when a traveler heads to another European destination.

Travelers can look forward to flying with PLAY and enjoying their connection in Iceland without having to worry about testing or showing proof of vaccination, as Iceland has now lifted all Covid-19-related entry requirements.

Play Airlines Offering 25% Flash Sale On US-EU Flights

“[The] flight from New York comes less than one year after PLAY’s very first flight from Iceland in 2021. Despite a challenging travel market, PLAY has still grown and established itself in Europe and the United States. We flew more than 100,000 passengers in our first seven months of operations,” said PLAY’s CEO Birgir Jónsson, about its airline’s rapid rise.

The airline expects to carry more than 1 million passengers in its second year of operation, showing that it is on the right track.

With attractive fares, flexible and customizable ticketing options that allow travelers to save money or invest in comfort, and more routes opening in September, PLAY could establish itself as a major player in transatlantic air travel.

The airline flies on a pay-as-you-go basis, with upgrades such as extra legroom and larger baggage available. Stopovers can be included in ticket prices at no extra charge.
