Allianz Global Assistance, a renowned travel insurance provider, examined U.S. tourists’ summer plans and discovered that Cancun, Mexico continues to top the chart.
According to the company, summer travel is forecasted to increase 16 percent over last year, with nearly three-quarters of Americans planning to travel domestically between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
When it comes to foreign travel, Americans flock to Mexico with Cancun being the most popular destination. San Jose del Cabo remains in second place, while Puerto Vallarta climbs three spots to sixth place in 2022.
Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, two and three spots better than last year.
Orlando, Seattle, Hawaii, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Portland, and Denver are the most popular destinations for domestic travel pushing Miami and Anchorage out of the top ten. Honolulu and Kahului also made the top five.
Allianz Partners’ Head of Communications, Daniel Durazo, anticipates a record number of bookings for both domestic and foreign travel this summer.
“Our findings show that ‘revenge travel’ is about to be taken to a whole new level in summer 2022,” Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners, said in a statement.
“While it’s no surprise that Americans are planning to kick back and relax in sun-soaked destinations both domestically and internationally, U.S. cities that were once buzzing tourist destinations pre-pandemic, like Boston, New York and Los Angeles, are seeing a significant return of travelers this summer as well, signaling a positive step in tourism recovery.”
