Cancun Hits New Record For Tourist Arrivals in October

According to numbers released by Cancun Airport this week, more than 1.1 million international travelers entered the country in October. Most of those guests were Americans eager for a getaway.

While other states of Mexico and countries around the world prohibited international guests until recently, Cancun took the opposite stance. It fully reopened in June 2020.

International travelers arriving in Cancun offer free COVID-19 tests for travelers returning home. If a traveler receives a positive test result, many resorts offer free quarantine rooms in which the guests may stay until health authorities permit them to travel.

Cancun has experienced multiple waves of COVID-19, including a strong wave caused by the delta variant. However, the outdoor resorts make it a less risky proposition for people who prefer to spend their vacations basking on the sandy, sunny beaches.

Some recent well-publicized shootings and gang activity had some travelers reconsidering their plans. However, the state’s law enforcement officials rapidly responded and noted that bad things can happen anywhere.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Cancun has dropped, and the country’s “green” travel rating makes it a safe destination for travelers. As of November 9, the seven-day rolling average of new cases of COVID-19 dropped to just 18 per day.
