Cancun Police To Patrol And Randomly Inspect Tourists During Beach Reinforcement Program

Cancun Police To Patrol Tourist Areas During Beach Reinforcement Program

Tourists to Cancun beaches may be subject to random police inspections as authorities introduce a new Beach Reinforcement Program.

Patrolling and inspections are key components of the city’s program to ensure the safety and well-being of both local and foreign visitors.

So, from now on, tourists could expect to see members of the Tourist Security Battalion patrolling popular beaches on ATVs, conducting random inspections in order to discourage criminal activity.

The truth is that the Riviera Maya, and particularly Cancun, has seen an increase in criminal attacks in recent months with Canadians, Americans, and visitors from other nationalities even losing their lives in the middle of random shootings.

Just two weeks ago, US authorities had to issue a new travel advisory against visiting Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum due to “violence and criminal activity.”

Such incidents have led the American FBI to intervene in this Mexican top destination.

“The FBI has just been involved in a matter in Quintana Roo and we are calling on the ambassador of the United States to report to us about this participation – if there was a report if there was cooperation in line with the rules,” stated Mexican President at a press conference a few days ago.

Mexico’s Secretary of Defense said that the Tourist Security Battalion “will provide security to the entire tourist area and, as 2022 progresses, the tools for the project and the equipment required to attend to this new mission will be provided.”

“The model that we would use here for the first time, with the National Guard in its specialty in the tourist area, will be replicated in other areas of the Mexican Republic in the main tourist sites.”

The police have been tasked with strengthening security prioritizing the municipalities of Benito Juarez (Cancun), Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen) and Tulum.
