Croatia Remains Open to Americans Despite EU Warning

Americans are still permitted to enter Croatia for non-essential purposes as the government will not tighten its travel requirements for U.S residents, despite the recommendation given by the European Council earlier this week.

The decision was confirmed by Croatian Minister, Davor Božinović at a meeting of interior ministers held in Brussels.

This is a recommendation. There have been situations before when Croatia did not follow the EU recommendations, so when it comes to American citizens, it will not this time either. We know that Americans mostly come to us as tourists, which means that they have met all the epidemiological conditions for coming,” Božinović said.

The current requirements for those travelling into Croatia from outside the EU, and which apply to arrivals from the U.S. will remain unchanged but are subject to change at any time without notice.

Entering into Croatia is relatively easy. Passengers are required to complete the Enter Croatia web form to speed up customs inspection at the border.

A negative PCR test taken not older than 72 hours or even a rapid antigen test not older than 48 hours would suffice. Proof of vaccination is also an option but it’s not mandatory.

Something of paramount importance that not many travelers know is that Croatia has set an expiration date for the vaccine certificate.

Travelers opting for bringing vaccination proof instead of a Covid-19 test must be aware that it must not be older than 270 days after the second jab.

After that period the visitor will be considered unvaccinated.

Also visitors must take a second rapid antigen test at the airport and quarantine until they receive their results. In case they return positive they must quarantine for 10 days.

Croatia is placed at number five regarding the death rate per capita in the EU. The government had promised to get half of its adult population by July but so far, just over 39.8% have been vaccinated.

As a result, officials have warned that further restrictions will be imposed in autumn.
