A year after the world learned about a virus that would change the way people live, work and travel, Mexico has been the only country in the world that has refused to implement restrictions on international air travel or enforce more than light-touch epidemiology restrictions.
As of yet, all tourists can visit the country without having to bring a COVID-19 test or quarantine on arrival.
Of course, such a particular approach has brought a series of unwanted consequences. After a careless holiday season, with thousands of tourists visiting from the U.S. and Canada mostly, hospitals have been overwhelmed by surging case numbers.
Even local authorities have had to flag some of their beloved touristic states under a “Red” epidemiology alert.
Countries such as Canada and the United States, either totally banned flights to this vacation getaway or imposed severe restrictions for nationals on their ways back home.
But, for each restriction or ban other countries enforce on traveling to Mexico, the country seems to have a creative comeback.
When the new U.S. President Joe Biden issued an executive order to require international air travelers to bring a negative COVID-19 test result, Puerto Vallarta in Mexico replied with hotels providing testing in-situ.
Now that the country is going through a tough time in terms of the spread of the virus, the government has decided to offer a free 14-day stay to tourists who test positive for COVID-19. Here is a list of the hotels and resorts offering the program.

AMResorts
AMResorts is a collection of luxury resorts located in multiple countries and island countries. Determined not to lose the tourism income, this resort chain is offering up to 14 nights of free stay through their CleanComplete+ Quarantine Program.
People affected by the virus will be allowed to have an additional person to take care of them in the same bedroom, also for free. Also, visitors coming from the United States, UK, Germany and Poland can take an antigen test for free.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico
Visitors who test positive for COVID-19 will be granted a 14-day stay for free in the Riviera Maya at Hotel Xcaret México.
U.S. visitors will be offered a complimentary Covid-19 antigen test on arrival. Other guests can access this service at a cost of USD $140.
Thanks to the biosafety protocols these resorts have been implementing the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) granted them a Safe Stamp.
Validity date: until March 31 (only applies for stays longer than 4 nights)
Palace Resorts
The Palace Resorts are made up of 10 oceanfront luxury resorts. In order to attract American and other tourists, they have decided to grant 14 nights for free to those guests who test positive for COVID-19. These rooms will be located away from other tourists.
Also, all Palace Resort properties are offering a free Covid-19 test for American guests.
