As 2024 comes to an end, Los Cabos is preparing to welcome an estimated 3.9 million air travelers, representing an increase of 100,000 visitors compared to 2023. This surge in tourism underscores the destination’s growing appeal and resilience despite earlier modest projections.
Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (Fiturca), highlighted a strong recovery in the latter part of the year. October saw a 2.8% rise in arrivals, November recorded a 4.5% increase, and December is expected to achieve growth of around 5%. Looking ahead to 2025, a further 2% to 3% boost in air connectivity is anticipated, particularly through expanded markets within the United States.
The Los Cabos Hotel Association projects an average hotel occupancy rate of 75% for the final two weeks of December. During the peak holiday period, including Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, occupancy is forecasted to reach 90%. The average nightly rate for accommodations during this period stands at $539, positioning Los Cabos as one of Mexico’s most premium / most expensive destinations.
Compared to the bustling spring season of 2024, prices have slightly decreased, as the average nightly rate during that period was $564, positioning Los Cabos as the most expensive destination in the country at the start of the year.
Despite these impressive figures, the destination faced challenges during the low season, when local businesses reported sales declines exceeding 50%. However, the holiday season’s robust performance highlights the resilience and enduring popularity of Los Cabos in a competitive tourism market.
