Mexican Navy Adding Over 9,000 Meters Of Anti-Sargassum Barriers In The Caribbean

The Secretary of the Navy provided information Tuesday morning about the installation of barriers against Sargassum throughout the state.

The plan for the 2023 Sargassum Operation, which has 9,050 meters of anti-sargassum barriers installed, was presented by the director of the Navy, José Rafael Ojeda Durán. In Othón P. Blanco (Chetumal, Mahahual), 1,850 meters of barriers were erected, 2,400 meters in Puerto Morelos, 2,500 meters in Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras), and 2,300 meters in Tulum.

He continued by saying that the ongoing work to remove the sargasso off the coast of Quintana Roo involves 328 workers and 16 small boats. according to him, 11 sargasso boats were sent out to help with the collection at sea.

Two Navy sargasso boats are in Cancun, one in Isla Mujeres, three in Othón P. Blanco, two in Puerto Morelos, two in Solidaridad and one in Tulum.
