Located in the southern part of Portugal, the Algarve is the ideal place to plan a trip. This incredibly scenic area is well known for its breathtaking cliffs and stunning beaches. Over the years, water has eroded away portions of the coastline, leaving behind amazing stone arches, steep cliffs, and beautiful pinnacles. Best of all, it is an affordable place to visit.
If you are planning a trip to the Algarve, be sure to leave time in your schedule to check out all of these attractions – one of the best ways to do so is via Albufeira boat trips:
The Benagil Sea Cave
The cave is so beautiful, in fact, that people sometimes have a hard time believing that it was created naturally. There are even fake photos online that are designed to push the conspiracy theory that the cave is man-made. In fact, however, the cave itself owes its beauty solely to nature.
The entire coastline is dotted with sea caves. In fact, if you head out on a boat from Benagil Beach, you can spot as many as 30 different caves. While some of these caves are wide open, others are more enclosed. Thanks to its small entrance, the Benagil cave falls into the second category.
The dome of the cave features a circular design that is full of color. There is a large hole at the top of the cave where light can enter, illuminating the space and creating a magical experience for anyone who goes inside.
Ponta da Piedade
If you are looking for a place with stunning views, look no further than Ponta da Piedade. This beautiful overlook is located to the west of Lagos, a city in the area with a population of about 30,000 people.
Over the years, water has eroded the coastline, leaving behind beautiful arches, stunning sea caves, and breathtaking pinnacles. Standing on the overlook, you can take in the coastline in either direction. It is the ideal place for watching the sun come up or watching it set at the end of the day.
There are a lot of great viewing places at the top of the cliffs. Alternatively, you can also go down the staircase to view the arches and cove more closely.
Praia da Marinha
If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind beach experience, be sure to visit Praia da Marinha. This beach consistently ranks as one of the most beautiful in the world and is considered by many to be one of the top beaches in the Algarve.
Bordered by tall cliffs, the beach not only has excellent sand but is also surrounded by naturally occurring stone arches.
You can enjoy a view of the beach from above by strolling along the top of the cliffs. Alternatively, during low tide, you can relax on the beach. If you prefer, you can also explore the area by boat.
Praia dos Tres Irmaos
This beach can be accessed by way of another nearby beach. What makes it unique is that it has an easily recognizable double arch located nearby.
During high tide, the water covers the beach, reaching the base of the cliffs. Because of that, you should plan your visit during low tide to make exploring the area as easy as possible.
Praia dos Tres Castelos
While you are visiting the Algarve, you should definitely check out Praia dos Tres Castelos.
This beach is conveniently located in Portimao. The backside of the beach is directly next to a row of tall cliffs. When you are on the beach between the ocean and the cliffs, it gives you a sense of how small you really are.
Praia da Falesia
When planning which beaches to visit, don’t forget to add Praia da Falesia. Known for its beautiful colors, this beach spans an area 6 km long. You can view the beach above from a nearby promontory. Get ready to see some stunning views when you visit this area in the Algarve.
Praia do Evaristo
With the majority of beaches in the Algarve, it is best to visit during low tide. Praia do Evaristo, on the other hand, is completely the opposite. The best time to go to this beach is during high tide.
The beach has an amazing restaurant where you can enjoy some delicious food. During high tide, the waves crash spectacularly on the rock formations in front of the beach, putting on a dazzling display. Be sure to leave enough time in your schedule to watch the waves and to enjoy the beauty of this area.
