Southwest Offers New "Buy Now, Pay Later" Tickets to Hawaii Starting at $49

Southwest Airlines has partnered with a “buy now, pay later” payment platform, Uplift, to offer $49 flights to Hawaii. The offer will last until Jan. 24.

The airline is already a well-known option for travelers looking for low prices. However, the worldwide tourist industry has suffered throughout the pandemic, and airlines haven’t emerged unscathed.

Leaders at Southwest believe the new offer will make Southwest a more appealing option, helping the company bounce back from pandemic-related troubles.

Though the offer will end on Jan. 24, customers can take advantage of it to book flights as late as Aug. 31.

Only one-way fares of $49 and up are eligible for the promotion. Some payment plans last as long as six months.

As a bonus, Southwest and Uplift won’t charge late fees for missed payments.

Nonetheless, the deal doesn’t apply to everyone. Citizens of Iowa and West Virginia are ineligible.

A down payment is necessary for certain routes. Before buying tickets, passengers should read the terms and conditions of their purchase.

Travelers also need to keep COVID-19 restrictions in mind. Hawaii’s entry requirements have changed several times throughout the past few months, and further rule changes might follow.

Unvaccinated travelers who are unwilling to provide negative results from a COVID-19 test currently have to quarantine upon arrival in Hawaii. The state places unboosted visitors in the same category as unvaccinated visitors.

Southwest’s Hawaii deal is just a part of many other developments for the airline. The company has added 70 new routes since June 2020.
