Spain Ranked As The Safest Destination In The EU with 7 “Green Regions”

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has ranked Spain as the safest place to visit in the European Union as per its latest epidemiology report.

COVID-19 figures released by the Spanish health agencies show that at least 7 of its regions have recorded less than 50 cases per 100,000 population in the last two weeks.

They have also demonstrated a test positivity rate of less than 4%, making “green” the majority of Spain’s territory.

Travelers looking for a safe autumn or winter getaway destination should buy tickets for the traditional but yet exuberant Castile and Leon, Cantabria, Extremadura, or Andalusia.

Other alternatives could include walking El Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James) in Galicia, experiencing Asturias‘ lush green valleys, tasting the world-renowned Basque Country cuisine, or getting lost in the vineyards of La Rioja.

Woefully, not all EU countries received good news this time. Due to elevated Covid cases, the EU health agency advised citizens to avoid traveling to Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, and Slovenia.

In addition, the ECDC placed half of Ireland, half of Belgium, and half of Slovakia back on the dark red list. Romania alone recorded 12,474 new infections in the last 24 hours.

This certainly explains Spain’s decision to further tighten its entry travel rules.

With more than 87,368 deceased citizens, Spain has walked a long way of strict quarantines and other health restrictions to make it to this “safe” point today.

Also, unvaccinated travelers from 23 non-EU countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Korea, and the United Arab Emirates, would be barred from entering Spain until at least November 30.

Bear in mind Spain has its own COVID-risk classification system which is updated every week.

Germany, Austria, Belgium, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Slovenia, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Denmark were among the countries on the high-risk list in the most recent update.

This means that visitors from the aforementioned countries must be fully vaccinated in order to enter Spain without being subjected to mandatory quarantine.
