This European Paradise Pays People Up To $15,000 To Move To Its Small Municipalities

Sardinia, an Italian island that is the second largest in the Mediterranean Sea and home to some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches and mountains, is offering new residents up to €15,000 ($15,000) upon moving there, albeit with a number of restrictions that those intrigued by this offer should take note of.

Most importantly, this money is only on offer to those moving to communities home to fewer than 3,000 residents. Also, it can only be used for up to 50% of the total cost of the purchase or renovation of a home. The move must be made within 18 months as well.

Those who already live in an eligible community are not eligible.

The intent behind this offering is to improve the health of Sardinia’s smallest communities, which have been experiencing significant population loss.

Christian Solinas, Sardinia’s president, said, “We have created the conditions for young people to decide to stay and (develop) the economic fabric of the most fragile territories.”

The Sardinian government has set aside €45 million for this. The offer is expected to remain available through the end of 2024.

Although the focus of this grant is to boost the island’s permanent residency numbers, one of its greatest economic influences has, for decades, been its tourism industry. It is Italy’s ninth-most-visited region with most of those visitors coming from elsewhere in Italy and from France and Germany.

No matter where you are on the island, you are no more than about 50 miles from the nearest beach.
