This U.S. State to Launch First-Ever International Flight! And It's To Cancun

Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) is set to achieve a historic milestone this fall, as American Airlines introduces the airport’s first-ever nonstop international route. Beginning November 8, 2025, travelers will be able to fly directly to Cancun, Mexico (CUN) on a new Saturday-only service.

Previously, international travel for Oklahomans required connecting flights through larger hubs. This new route eliminates that inconvenience, providing a more efficient option for vacationers, families, and business travelers alike. The flight will operate weekly through April 4, 2026, using a Boeing 737 aircraft.

“This milestone is a testament to our city’s renaissance, as well as a reflection of our willingness to invest in ourselves,” said Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt. “This would not have been possible without the vision of our airport leadership… Our gratitude to them, as well as American Airlines.”

Cancun remains a top-tier destination known for its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and Mayan heritage. The route is expected to appeal to a wide range of travelers, from families and couples to students on spring break.

The international service is the result of years of collaboration between the Oklahoma City Airport Trust and local stakeholders. A key factor in securing the route was the recent completion of a Federal Inspection Station, enabling customs processing for international arrivals.

Tickets will be available starting Monday, March 31, via the American Airlines website.
