Although some Americans are postponing their vacation plans due to the continued spreading of the delta variant of COVID-19, which now makes up nearly all new cases, a considerable percentage are still going through with their plans.
Where are they looking to travel to? According to Destination Insights with Google, Las Vegas is far and away the most searched destination through the first half of August. However, several other cities have been garnering significant interest from American travelers as well. The Entertainment Capital of the World is followed on this list by New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
Las Vegas
Las Vegas has been one of the world’s top attractions for decades, so it is no surprise that it is a top interest for would-be travelers now.
In addition to its casinos being open and welcoming, a number of musical events have been scheduled for the coming months, including concerts by Barry Manilow (Sept. 16-Dec. 4) and Gwen Stefani (Oct. 22-Nov. 6) and the return of the iHeartRadio Music Festival (Sept. 17-18).
New York
New York is also attracting quite a bit of interest from those looking to go on vacation this August. Part of the reason for this is the reopening of Broadway after a long hiatus.
Most notably, theaters there can be operated at 100% capacity from Sept. 14-on. That month, “Hamilton,” “Moulin Rouge” and “Chicago” will resume performances. However, theater enthusiasts should note that they need to be vaccinated to attend.
Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board through its Discover Los Angeles website has been pushing its full reopening plans, inviting travelers to “come back to nature” and “come back to breathless excitement.” Its world-class beaches, amusements parks and museums are awaiting visitors.
Chicago
The Windy City is offering beautiful walks along Lake Michigan, bleacher seats at Wrigley Field and some of the world’s best shopping to those making plans to visit Chicago this August.
Other top destinations in the U.S. were San Diego, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, Orlando.
Meanwhile, topping the list of top international destinations sought by Americans this August are Cancun, Mexico; San Juan, Puerto Rico; London and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
