International guests no longer need to take a COVID-19 test upon entry. All travelers ages six years and older must have completed a COVID-19 vaccination series.
Guests ages two years and older need to provide a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours before their departure. To facilitate speedy entry, travelers must complete a traveler’s affidavit within two days of their arrival.
The affidavit completion allows international guests to receive a QR code to show on their phones. The QR code reduces wait time at ports of entry throughout Chile.
At entry, all guests must provide vaccination status, a travel itinerary and their contact information to authorities. Foreign visitors need to provide proof of $30,000 in travel insurance coverage that includes benefits for COVID-19-related treatments.
Health authorities will randomly select guests for COVID-19 test at entry. Airports accepting international arrivals include Antofagasta, Iquique, Punta Arenas and Santiago.
Chile only issues a few vaccine exemptions for non-citizens. Almost 95% of Chile’s adults completed a COVID-19 vaccination series.
Travelers who have not completed a COVID-19 vaccination series must complete the same quarantine and testing requirements as travelers who visited before March 8.
More than 13.3 million Chileans have received a booster shot. Chile’s high vaccination rate ranks among the top of all nations in South America.
In late January through mid-February, the Omicron variant of COVID-19 caused an average of about 39,000 new COVID-19 infections per day in Chile. As of March 17, the average daily number of new infections dropped to about 16,000 per day.
The average daily number of deaths caused by COVID-19 has dropped by about 40% over the past two weeks.
In late February, Chile reported about 190 daily deaths from COVID-19. As of mid-March, Chile has averaged about 100 daily deaths.
