American Airlines Announces A Big Flight Expansion To The Caribbean

For the forthcoming winter season, American Airlines on Wednesday unveiled its busiest-ever schedule of flights to the Caribbean and Latin America.

The Fort Worth-based airline is expanding service on 23 current routes, including to its newest destination, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and adding two flights to Cancun.

2 New routes to Cancun

On Dec. 9, American will introduce two unique flights to Cancun. The first will fly from Cincinnati, the other from Nashville.

These flights, which will operate once a week on Saturdays, are distinguished by offering point-to-point service.

American Airlines Adds New Direct Flights To Ireland

In addition to the new Cancun route, American is offering expanded service on 23 existing flights.

Highlights include twice-daily flights to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Most of the changes are described below.

American just started operating a route from Miami earlier this month, but it appears to be doing well enough to support more flights. Miami Airport and American’s route network have new routes to Tortola (which was previously served by the airline a decade ago).

Nearly half of the new, increased routes originate in Charlotte, where American has indicated it plans to increase the number of flights from its hub there to 800 per day. Compared to winter 2022, American will offer a total of 40% more seats from Charlotte to Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Travelers can expect significant growth at the airline’s mega-hub in Dallas-Fort Worth, with more than 50 daily departures to Mexico.
