This 47 Year-Old Bar With Cliff Jump Is Becoming An Icon Of The Caribbean

For travelers who will be visiting the Caribbean near or in Negril, Jamaica, there is a bar that everyone must visit. Even non-drinkers will want to check out Rick’s Cafe, which is a popular restaurant and bar that offers a unique and thrilling way to stay entertained.

Thrill seekers will love participating in cliff-jumping off the side of the cliff-top bar. The cafe is located on Negril’s West End cliffs, which is south of Seven Mile Beach as well as the city of Negril.

Rick’s Cafe opened in 1974, and although it has gone through updates and renovations over the years, certain features have remained, including the ability to go cliff-jumping. Patrons can choose to jump from the least thrilling height, which is 10 feet, a more titillating jump from 25 feet, or the most adventurist jump from 35 feet.

Patrons are warned not to drink too much before jumping, as alcohol and jumping from cliffs could pose potential dangers. It’s also stressed that the cliff is for jumping, not diving, as diving from such a distance is quite dangerous.

The prices at Rick’s aren’t cheap, but not only are patrons paying for the food and drinks, but they’re paying for the experience, as well. Drinks can cost around $11, while a lobster dinner can cost $40 – but there are a few cheaper options, like appetizers that come with a side for $18 or a Red Stripe beer for $5.

For those more inhibited visitors who would rather sit back and watch others jump, there is no pressure to participate in the thrills. Those who visit Rick’s Cafe can also choose to simply enjoy the pool for swimming and relaxing. There are even convenient cabanas surrounding the pools that can be rented for up to 10 guests.

Regardless of what you do when you get to the cafe, it’s important that you visit whenever you’re in the area so you can experience – or watch- the thrilling activity of cliff-jumping.
