Tourists Keep Flocking To This Island In The Caribbean

The island of Jamaica continues to see a steady influx of tourists, with the destination reporting its 10th straight quarter of strong tourism growth.

According to Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, the country received nearly 683,000 stopover guests in the third quarter, 5.5 percent more than the same period in 2022.

“The economic performance figures for the third quarter of the year show that Jamaica continues to shine as a premier destination, with significantly increasing stopover arrivals and earnings,” Bartlett told reporters.

A total of $1 billion was generated by tourism on the island, a 7.3 percent increase from the same time in 2022.

“This continues the spectacular growth pattern of tourism,” Bartlett said. “Both in terms of visitor arrivals as well as for earnings. Indeed, it marks the 10th consecutive quarter since the COVID-19 pandemic that we have shown significant growth.”

A resurgent U.K. market, which continues to outperform any other source market for Jamaican tourism outside the United States, has fueled this growth.

“The pattern of growth for this market has been noteworthy also as the UK market continues to outpace the other non-American markets, and Jamaica now is the number one destination in the Caribbean for UK visitors,” the Minister said. “We want to grow that, and our Jamaica Travel Market tradeshow, which just ended in the UK has indicated a pattern of continued growth.”

The conference, held in late September, brought together regional companies and Jamaican resorts, hotels, travel agencies and car rental companies.

After several years of being hampered by health restrictions on foreign travel, Canada is also experiencing a resurgence. By 2025, Jamaican authorities hope to have 500,000 annual visitors from Canada.

“We’re excited about Canada and the prospects for improved growth from Canada,” he said.
