Cancun International Airport Sets A New Daily Flights Record

Daily operations at Cancun International Airport topped 719 (354 arrivals and 365 departures) on Saturday, December 17. It is one of Mexico’s three busiest airports along with Mexico City International Airport and Guadalajara International Airport.

The airport has recorded a successful calendar year in 2020 and this latest news is the cherry on top. The airport had an average of 500 flights on many days of the year and the number of passengers by the end of the year will reach nearly 25 million. 

This figure puts Cancun International Airport as one of the top 10 of busiest in the world.

Demand for travel to the Mexican Caribbean has been at an all-time high and there doesn’t seem to be a dip in demand anytime soon. Travelers, especially from the United States and Canada are eager to return to the major tourist destination. 

According to Aeropuertos del Sureste (ASUR), the leading international airlines operating in Cancun International Airport are Aeromexico, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, Air France, KLM, Alaska Airlines and British Airways.

To break down the numbers even further, 240 inbound flights were from international airports and 251 of outbound flights were destined for international locations.
