Colombia’s President Iván Duque announced that as of December 14, 2021, there will be new restrictions for all travelers to Colombia. The new rule states that no later than 72 hours prior to travel, all arrivals to Colombia must show proof of full vaccination or a negative PCR test result.
Health Minister Fernando Ruíz Gómez confirmed this news whilst also stating there will be no restrictions on inbound or outbound flights from Colombia. A guideline for travelers to follow is below along with Health Minister Ruíz stating that airline staff can impose these new regulations.
These new regulations add to those put into place on November 16 with a local mandate for private and public events which include: bars, cinemas churches and sporting events. The mask mandate was also extended until February 28 of next year.
Traveler checklist:
- Fill out the CheckMiG, online pre-registration Migracion Colombia form, including your method of (air, land, sea) and point of entry. Take note of the timeframes to fill out the form, either 48 hours before your flight or up to one hour before the flight closes.
- Show paper or digital form of full vaccination against Covid-19, with the last dose being administered at least 14 days before departure.
- Those who don’t provide proof of vaccination will need to provide a negative PCR test no later than 72 prior to departure.
Although there has been no reported case of the Omicron variant detected in Colombia this far, Ruiz stated that the variant “could already be circulating in several regions of the country.”
The latest data from Our World in Data shows that 49.5% of the population in Colombia is fully vaccinated. What has aided in the rise of vaccination rates is that last month persons ages 3 to 11 were allowed to receive the vaccine.
