Cancun resorts are still full, with an average occupancy rate of well over 80% in the first three months of the year, despite concerns in the local travel industry. This is according to fresh numbers released this week. 

Last week, the seaside resort town received more than 500,000 vacationers from around the world, including many from the United States.

The record-breaking influx of tourists allays any fears that recent travel advisories from the U.S. might diminish Americans’ enthusiasm for Cancun. The city seems to be as popular as it has ever been.

Cancun resorts are among the busiest in Mexico, according to the latest statistics from the country’s tourism authority. On average, 82% of all rooms are fully booked.

Along with Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, Cancun leads in occupancy, according to the data. Cancun has more rooms and a wider range of accommodations than its counterparts across the country. 75% of all new resorts in the country are located in the coastal region.

Mexico’s busiest air hub for international passenger traffic is Cancun International Airport.

More than 1,300 aircraft landed or took off over the Easter weekend as tourists flocked to Cancun to experience its tropical atmosphere.

This year, Cancun has been uninterruptedly one of the most visited vacation destinations in Mexico, and it is likely that it will continue to hold the top spot for hotel bookings.

Similar to Playa del Carmen in the south, Cancun is becoming a year-round vacation destination for Americans.

According to several analysts, rising demand and the popularity of the region have led to an increase in overnight rates at Cancun’s resorts.

Despite inflation and price increases, tourists are focused on the popular Caribbean region.

Forecasts indicate travel numbers will increase this year as more Americans set aside money for vacations.

According to vacation websites like Tripadvisor, more and more North Americans are opting for Caribbean places like Cancun.

In mid-March, just before the peak Spring Break travel season, the United States startled Mexican authorities in the Caribbean by issuing a travel warning for Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

A kidnapping of Americans in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas prompted Texas to warn its people against coming to Mexico just before that.

Despite the warnings, well over a million tourists visited popular Mexican Caribbean destinations during Spring Break and Easter without any notable instances of violent crime.
