March 4 – A Week of street shootings and threat messages in Cozumel
Cozumel has reported shootings for a third time in a week.
According to initial reports, those who fired into the air and then ran away were motorcyclists.
A sizable threat letter was left for Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo outside the Subdirectorate of Ecology’s offices on Friday. It warned her not to fall for anyone connected to illegal activity.
Another handwritten threat note was discovered outside the mayor’s residence on February 22.
Although these kinds of threats in open areas on the island are not new, the frequency and detail of these messages about criminals and island crime are increasing.
