For a long time, Playa del Carmen has been recognized as a tropical paradise and a popular destination for tourists seeking sun, sand, and relaxation. However, recent events have shed light on the darker side of this picturesque city.

Playa del Carmen (PDC) has experienced a surge in criminal activities, including shootings, which have raised concerns and caution, especially among tourists.

A Second Shooting Incident Within 24 Hours Rocks PDC’s Fifth Avenue

An armed man was caught on camera fleeing from the crime scene after shooting up a local restaurant on PDC Fifth Avenue.

A few police officers talked to the restaurant’s owner, who revealed that the shooting happened at around 9:00 a.m. after the restaurant had opened. Luckily, there were no casualties.

Another man was shot and killed along Fifth Avenue after getting into an argument with the wrong crowd. The deceased man has a bad criminal record that associates him with narcotics.

Two tourists were injured in the crossfire. This incident happened next to a business that was shut down by the State Attorney General in August 2022 for drug trafficking.

A few witnesses claim that there was gunfire coming from the police officers and the criminal runaways. However, the police have not yet confirmed these reports.

At least two people were taken into Solidaridad police custody after the vehicle was near a residential entrance along Playa del Carmen Boulevard.
