Travel + Leisure Magazine announced its winners for the annual World’s Best Awards and Ubud has been named the Best City in Asia in 2022. Ubud came in second place last year and upped its spot for 2022.
Ubud provides travelers a destination where they can immerse in a spiritual experience and the opportunity to seek a new cultural outlook. It is also home to some of the world’s best health and wellness facilities as well as lush jungles, nature and famous rice terraces.
This island’s cultural capital was given this award by the readers of the magazine, showing how real travelers feel about the best places to visit. Ubud was given the top spot in part due to the fact it has a ‘mix of stunning temples, rain forests, white-sand beaches, and a thriving city center, Ubud truly has something for everyone’.
Magazine readers rated their experience based on their sights and landmarks, their cultural offerings, cuisine, openness, and friendliness, as well as shopping opportunities and overall value for money. Ubud scored 91.73 out of a possible 100 while Chiang Mai in Thailand came to a close second place scoring 90.70.
Hotels and resorts in Ubud also feature in the top of the best resorts in all of Asia list, topped by Capella Ubud which is ranked as the 7th best hotel in the world by Travel + Leisure Magazine readers. The five-star hotel scored 98.97 out of 100 and a comment from one reader read ‘there’s nothing quite like this in the world’.
Other resorts in the top 10 included: The Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, second place, Alila Villa, fourth place and Four Seasons Resort in Sayan, fifth place.
Forbes magazine also voted Ubud as the best destination for solo travelers in 2022, adding to a growing list of accolades for the town.
