VIDEO: 39m Luxury Yacht Sinks Off The Coast Of Italy

On Saturday, a member of the Italian Coast Guard rescued nine people from a sinking superyacht off the coast of southern Italy.

The 39.4-meter motorboat “My Saga” sank off the coast of Catanzaro Marina, the Italian press reported over the weekend.

The ship got into trouble about 15 km off the coast of Catanzaro. The footage shows the superyacht tipping onto its side before coming to a stop and sinking completely.

Video from the scene shows the huge boat tipping into the sea before sinking stern-first.

After receiving a distress call, the Coast Guard dispatched a tugboat to safely pull the distressed vessel back to port.

Coast Guard officials said the stern of the yacht disappeared into the waves and the water reached the roof line. Considering the condition of the boat, rescuers stopped towing when the vessel went nose up in the air and began to sink rapidly.

According to Sky News, deteriorating weather conditions made it difficult for a rescue tug to bring the yacht to safety.

An investigation is underway to determine what led to the sinking of the vessel, reported the broadcaster.

The yacht was built in Italy in 2007 and was sailing from Gallipoli to Milazzo under the Cayman Islands flag with an all-Italian crew when it sank, according to Super Yacht Times.
