Jamaica 21,000 tourists during Christmas holiday

The Jamaica Tourist Board reported the highest number of arrivals since the island’s reopening on June 15, with over 21,000 visitors between December 22-28.

Most of the passengers arrived at Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport, known to be the primary tourist point, whereas only 4,203 travelers arrived at Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport.

Set side by side, during December, Jamaica has welcomed over 98,000 visitors, which is 30,000 more than in November. A total amount of 376,044 passengers visited the island since it has reopened.

Donovan White — Jamaica’s Director of Tourism — is flattered to see the much-needed improvement within the industry, and hopes the figures will remain in large numbers throughout the New Year.

Along with White, all stakeholders are staying positive, as they believe that the winter holiday travel boom will strengthen Jamaica’s recovery intentions.

Regarding the COVID-19 situation in Jamaica, it is pretty much under control. There have been 877 cases recorded in the past 14 days, with only 20 newly reported cases in the last 7 days.

In comparison with the numbers from the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 12,752 confirmed COVID-19 cases, resulting in 298 deaths.

Various entry requirements apply to visit Jamaica. For example, travelers coming from high-risk locations, such as the USA, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Panama aged 12 and above must present a negative COVID-19 PCR or Antigen test result to check-in for a flight.

The test must be less than 10 days old and has to come from a certified medical laboratory.

Visitors from other countries are not required to pre-test, but they still have to undergo a test upon arrival. 14-day quarantine might be necessary depending on the traveler’s category.
