This Mexican Island To Receive Over 90,000 Cruise Passengers This Week

This week, Cozumel is set to welcome over 90,000 cruise passengers with the arrival of multiple ships. The island anticipates docking 33 luxury vessels at its piers throughout the week.

Passengers are expected in Cozumel from January 29 to February 3, considering the average capacity of 3,000 passengers per ship. The arrival of Caribbean cruise ships starts Monday, with four vessels scheduled to dock.

The Norwegian Escape, scheduled to arrive in Cozumel on Monday, can accommodate over 4,200 passengers, while the Seven Seas Grandeur, also arriving that day, has a capacity of just over 700.

Tuesday will see seven vessels, including the large Norwegian Breakaway with nearly 4,000 passengers. Wednesday’s schedule includes five ships bringing over 21,000 travelers.

Thursday remains busy with seven ships and about 21,300 passengers, and Friday’s tally exceeds 36,000 across five vessels.

Concluding the week, Saturday features five scheduled ships docking at Cozumel’s piers.

Quintana Roo State Received More Than 100 Cruises In The First Two Weeks Of 2024

In the first two weeks of 2024, the ports of Cozumel and Mahahual in Quintana Roo welcomed over 100 cruise ships, reinforcing the region’s leading status in cruise tourism. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa highlighted this achievement as a boost to both the cruise sector and overall economic prosperity.

The “New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo” aims to attract more cruise ships and extend their stay, benefiting local tourism workers and their families. With 106 ships received in early 2024, the region anticipates a record-breaking year, following last year’s influx of over 5 million visitors on 1,500 ships.
