Greece Named As Best European Destination At ‘World Travel Awards 2023’

It’s no secret that Greece is one of the most visited countries in the world. Its popularity grew more than ever this year, and it was recognized as the number one destination in Europe by Travvy Awards.

Every year, TravelPulse in collaboration with AGENTatHOME announces the world’s top destinations in various categories, including the best city destinations, places to indulge your tastebuds, or the best honeymoon spots.

In the Best European Destination, Greece was awarded Gold, followed by Italy and Portugal. Greece also became the winner of the Best European Cruise category.

What makes Greece the top travel destination?

So what is it that lures travelers to this Mediterranean paradise? First and foremost, it’s the rich history. It’s not called the cradle of Western civilization for nothing – the country boasts 19 UNESCO Heritage-listed sites.

When in Athens, you simply must visit the famous Acropolis, Parthenon, or the Temple of Olympian Zeus. You will also find a unique historical site on any of the Greek Islands.

The stunning islands and their beaches are another reason why Greece appears on top of basically every travel list. Each island has its own atmosphere, but they all have one thing in common – pristine beaches with clean, turquoise sea. And you can look forward to activities like yachting, diving, or windsurfing.

The iconic Windmills of Mykonos

Yet, there is one island that stands out a bit more. Yes, you guessed it right – it’s Mykonos. It’s located in the Cyclades and is known all over the world, mainly for its stunning natural beauty, top-class hotel resorts, and fantastic nightlife. For its cosmopolitan character, it’s often referred to as the “Manhattan of the Aegean Sea”, especially during the busy summer months.

Last but not least, we simply must mention the Greek cuisine, which is out of this world. It’s characterized by fresh seafood, amazing salads, juicy gyros, and delicious baked treats. You will also find plenty of local drinks there, including tasty wine, ouzo, or mastika.
