AAA Travel has shared their latest predictions for Thanksgiving travel and that 53.4 million Americans will travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.
This number is an estimated increase of 13 percent from 2020 and brings travel levels within pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019. In large part this is due to the reopening of the U.S. borders to fully vaccinated international tourists and more people feeling safer traveling due to updated mandates.
With roads and airports projected to be more congested due to the influx of travelers, the study further states that 90 percent of Americans plan to travel by car. This is a stark revelation to both show the method of transportation for travelers as well as the fact the gas currency costs over a dollar more than this travel period last year.
Those who opt to travel via airlines should anticipate some hiccups due to the limited capacity of flights caused by staffing and other shortages. These travelers are urged by the AAA to look into travel insurance options to ensure they are covered in case the unforeseen happens.
Travel is high again on the list for Americans as they are looking to reunite with family members and friends for the holiday. The influx of international travel due the reopening of borders will also put stress on the system but give a much-needed boost to the transportation sector and economy.
