Peru Joins The Hype And Introduces Digital Nomad Visa

The government of Peru has enacted a decree law that, upon implementation, will lead to the following notable changes, among other provisions:

  • Introduction of a Fresh Digital Nomad Visa
  • Reduced Validity Period for Foreign Residents’ Local Identification Cards
  • Streamlined Deportation Procedures for Specific Foreign Nationals

The government claims that the new directive is intended to strengthen the current immigration system to protect national security and allow legal and orderly entry into the country.

The government’s simultaneous goal of attracting international talent and investment is signaled by the introduction of a new visa for digital nomads. In addition, a new visa for citizens of Andean countries was recently put into effect to encourage immigration and trade with these countries.

Foreign nationals working for a company headquartered outside Peru can apply for a new digital nomad visa that allows them to live and work in Peru for up to one year, with the option to extend.

Holders of a Digital Nomad Visa are prohibited from engaging in locally compensated work in Peru.

The requirements for eligibility and specifics of the visa will be released in upcoming regulations.
