This Island In Mexico Was Given Magic Town Award

The island of Cozumel has been designated as a Magic Town following a rigorous evaluation. The island’s new designation was revealed on Monday by the Mexican government’s Secretary of Tourism.

Miguel Torruco Marqués, Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, reported that 123 applications were received from 27 states. The Technical Evaluation and Verification Committee carefully selected 45 applications and chose those that properly met the requirements.

One of those applications was Cozumel. The processes for Cozumel’s inclusion in the Magic Towns program were unanimously accepted by the city council in June.

“This is a very significant day for tourist activity in Mexico because new Magical Towns are incorporated into our vast tourist offer, expanding and diversifying it.

“With their natural, cultural and gastronomic wealth, from today, they will be important travel motivators which will attract greater tourist flows and, consequently, increase the economic flow, investment, and employment for the benefit of our local populations,” he said.

According to Torruco, there are currently 177 Magic Towns in Mexico, places that are popular with both domestic and international tourists from around the world for their natural features, community life, customs, and traditions.

According to him, the brand “Pueblos Mágicos” suggests an annual increase of 8% in the gross value added of the destination, and Sectur will continue to promote these places through the Magic Color Routes program.

He highlighted plans to further enhance the promotion of Mexico’s tourist heritage through various platforms, including the Tianguis Internacional de Pueblos Mágicos, the Tianguis de Pueblos Mágicos, and the traditional Tianguis Turístico México.

Governor Mara Lezama acknowledged the island’s new status on Monday. “It fills us with emotion to share that Cozumel has become a Magical Town. Congratulations to the people of Cozumel and welcome everyone to enjoy the spectacular island of swallows.”

Cozumel has become the fourth Magic Town in Quintana Roo, joining the ranks of Tulum, Isla Mujeres, and Bacalar, as a cherished island destination.
