This Secret Bar In California's Redwood Forest Can Only Be Reached By Train

The Glen Blair Bar opened in 2022 in the middle of a redwood forest in Mendocino County, Northern California. It can only be reached by train, which travels through a spectacular landscape and offers a unique and magical experience.

The historic Skunk Train is now available to patrons of the Glen Blair Bar, a venue traditionally used only for special events. This vintage train, which has been running since 1885, takes passengers from the Skunk Train depot in Fort Bragg, California, directly to the outdoor bar.

The train offers several departure times, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

Passengers embark on an enchanting sunset ride that winds through Pudding Creek and passes beneath majestic tree canopies. The ride lasts 25 minutes and is mesmerizing. At the end of the ride, guests are greeted by an enchanting backdrop of twinkling lights, live music and a plethora of fun activities.

In addition to the selection of wine, beer and cocktails, guests can also pre-order charcuterie platters for two, including a choice of meat and cheese or a salmon and cheese alternative.

These provide a delicious snack while you enjoy a friendly game of cornhole with other bar fans. A limited number of train tickets are also available for furry companions to join in the evening’s festivities. However, Glen Blair Bar asks that only “well-behaved” dogs accompany their owners for this treat.

Although the train and bar intend to remain open year-round thanks to the many outdoor fireplaces and heaters, the team recommends visiting in the fall. At this time, weather conditions are most favorable and the foliage is in full glory. A cornhole competition on October 16 and a Halloween party on October 28 are two other seasonal events to look forward to.

Please note that the train ride is exclusively for adults of legal drinking age, i.e. people 21 years and older can purchase tickets. The round-trip fare is $49.95 per person, with special discounts available for locals during certain events. The train’s last departure is at 10:30 p.m., so all passengers can enjoy a fascinating journey under the starry night sky on the return trip as well.
