Travelers worldwide will be relieved to learn that COVID-19 entry restrictions are increasingly becoming the exception rather than the rule in the post-pandemic world.
This fall, Americans with all required vaccinations effectively have a choice of 190 countries to visit without undergoing COVID-19 testing or quarantine.
However, here is a short list of countries that still have Covid-19 restrictions:
Hong Kong
Hong Kong recently loosened travel restrictions, abolishing its burdensome quarantine requirement. Visitors are still required to test negative for Covid-19 several times, including before departure, and must self-monitor for a few days while avoiding public places such as pubs and restaurants.
Japan
Japan is now fully open to tourists, however, entering the country requires either documentation of a COVID-19 vaccination or a negative PCR test result obtained within 72 hours of departure.
China
China is the most renowned Asian country that is still off-limits to tourists because of a zero-COVID policy.
Bermuda
Bermuda is another popular destination with travel restrictions for travelers above the age of 2, but traveling will be easier from October 25 onwards, since no pre-trip, arrival or day 4 tests will be required. Non-residents who are not immunized must still provide acceptable proof of travel health insurance in order to enter the country.
Qatar
Qatar is another famous Middle Eastern destination that is still enforcing coronavirus restrictions ahead of the 2022 World Cup, which begins next month.
Before traveling to Qatar, U.S. citizens must submit a negative PCR (48 hours) or rapid antigen (24 hours) test
United States
The U.S. dropped the testing requirement but still requires all international visitors to have proof of vaccination. The date to end this rule is still unknown.
Unvaccinated travelers could face more difficulties than vaccinated travelers this fall, as a number of major destinations, including Anguilla, Brazil, Chile, Dominica, Japan, Peru, Spain and the United Arab Emirates, require these visitors to test negative for COVID -19 before arrival.
