Consulting firm ForwardKeys ranked Cancun as the “second most visited destination worldwide.” The first place was taken by Dubai.
Cancun’s tourism numbers have increased as a result of this recognition, solidifying the city’s status as a popular vacation destination for years to come.
The Governor of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín González expressed his pride in having a state destination as one of the most visited internationally.

This achievement belongs to the people of Quintana Roo, let’s keep taking care of ourselves. Let’s go for a prosperous 2022 in the #CaribeMexicano! ”, he published on his Twitter account.
ForwardKeys is a travel consulting company founded in 2010. It reviews the number of boarding passes purchased worldwide and maps the popularity of specific locations based on the data it gathers.

In the run-up to 2022, the company found that Cancun not only had the most boarding passes purchased for a Mexican location but also had the second-highest boarding pass purchases internationally.
Cancun obviously earned this honor, as it is one of the most diverse destinations in the world.
The city is known for being a popular spring break destination for twenty-somethings, but it’s also a great option for a group vacation with friends or family. This year, the city has also made great strides in welcoming remote workers with open arms.

Another factor contributing to the city’s tourism boom is its airport, which handled 20 million passengers from January to September this year, compared to 17.7 million passengers in 2019.
That’s a 13.7% increase, allowing more travelers to arrive and depart Cancun in a timely manner. The airport has overtaken Mexico City International Airport to become the country’s main access point for foreign tourists this year.
